MT > MT for geothermal exploration
  • Step 1: Geology of the studied area
The studied area is located close to the site called “Anses d’Arlets”, south-West of Martinique. The geology is mainly composed of andesitic to dacitic products with basaltic lavas (ages ranges from 1.5 to 0.35 million years).
Location of the 33 broadband MT soundings measured in 2012 are depicted with black dots. Thermo-mineral springs are indicated by pink diamonds. Known hydrothermally altered zone is also indicated.

  • Step 2: Structural geology and volcanism
On the map are depicted the main volcanoes (and estimated ages) and the major faults, recognized (plain lines) or inferred (dashed lines). Thermo-mineral springs (colored dots) and alteration outcrops are indicated.

  • Step 3: Topography
The topography is quite important due to the volcanic history of the area. Altitude is varying from sea level to 500m. This has been a constraint for logistics and inversion.

  • Step 4: Logistics
If a MT station can be carried by 3 persons walking, the farthest and highest MT stations were installed with the help of a helicopter.
