Seismic applications > Rayleigh waves: f-k filtering

A filter in wavenumber domain, gives the extraction of two Pseudo-Rayleigh waves after flattening the slowest Pseudo-Rayleigh wave, by using a group velocity correction. This filtering type is equivalent to a velocity filter in plan (f,k). It is possible to adjust the filter's width in wavenumber, by using a filtering parameter which varies from 0 (narrow band filter) and 8 (wide band filter). The extracted wave is then subtracted to initial data. The rest of the residues thus obtained allows to evaluate the efficacy of such filtering. Filtered data and residues are represented on plan (x, t) on the figure on the bottom left, and in plan (f, k) on the figure on the top right, after having applied a correction of inverse velocity. The 2D amplitude spectrum associated to the section of residues or residual section mainly shows the fast Pseudo-Rayleigh wave.
