Stochastic Signal Processing > Stochastic wave separation

Stochastic Data Processing or S D P quantifies and maximizes the performance of a geophysical process such as wave separation when processing V S P data.

The probability model associated to the wave field separation reproduces the conventional geophysical model which stands that the seismic VSP amplitude dataset is the sum of a down going wave field, an up going wave field and a residual organized noise.

These spatial signal and noise components are assumed to not correlate in space and the noise is assumed not to be correlated from one trace to another.
